Sangam Village
The first mention of Sangam villages existence appeared in the 14th Century. This idyllic Kashmiri hamlet is located on the eastern shore of Anchar Lake in the Greater Srinagar area. It was earmarked by Samvedana to be a center for Kani Weaving that will be developed by the Ministry of Tourism. Economically the village is well off and has a well-developed Kani weaving industry. Sangam Village is where we will implement our plans to reintroduce the traditional textile designs we have been researching.
Kani Designs
Samvedana is ahead of schedule in plans to format traditional heritage kani designs that will be implemented. These basic designs have been sourced from a wide variety of sources both public and private. We have extensively photographed the designs and developed them on graph paper and computers. In the future, these designs will be formatted in weaving patterns or taleems, kept in a library and made available to weavers.
